Twenty Questions : Freya Stevens
A quickfire 20 question session for one of our show home interior designers, Freya Stevens, on all the important things in life!
QUESTION ONE : Give us a quick run down of a typical day at Suna for you?
Lots and lots of time on Pinterest! We have been scheming for some really lovely developments recently so I’ve been finding some great inspiration! But alongside that I will be keeping an eye on my emails and making sure that any projects that are coming up to being installed are all in order and ready to go.
QUESTION TWO : If you weren’t in your current role what other career could you have seen yourself doing?
When I was little I thought a lot about the future and I loved day dreaming about what job I would do. I genuinely don’t think there isn’t a job I haven’t thought about doing, from psychiatrist to zookeeper to baby clothes designer.
However I’ve wanted to be an interior designer since I was about 15 and the only thing that came close to challenging that was a police officer. But then The Bill was cancelled and I went off the idea!
QUESTION THREE : What does an ideal weekend look like?
Driving out to a big house in the country with lots of friends, lots of dogs and lots of board games.
QUESTION FOUR : tell us about your favourite suna interior design project?
I loved the spec the spec team did at Samuel Square. The art deco feel and the beautiful teal blue and turquoise colour palette were just lovely. That back lit mirror over the bathroom sink is amazing!
And I also helped my colleague Jess install a job for Mount Anvil before Christmas in Whitechapel. It was just beautiful. Lots of soft pinks, purples and terracottas. Her attention to detail in the accessories was amazing and I loved seeing it all come together. Hopefully this will be photographed soon and up on the website as everyone needs to see it!
QUESTION five : Describe yourself in three words
Book. In . Hand.
QUESTION SIX : tell us something about you that we would never guess?
I’m a diehard fan of the Archers.
QUESTION SEVEN : What’s your favourite possession and why?
My cameo ring. It was my Grandma’s and is apparently a cameo of one of our relatives.
QUESTION EIGHT : What are your top three pet peeves?
I wouldn’t say that these are really pet peeves but sometimes these things can slightly irritate me :
Radio call ins or shout outs
Washing up being left in or ‘near’ a sink for too long
Words being mispronounced
QUESTION NINE : You just won £10,000. What are you going to do with the money?
I’d have to say think about it and either give it away or put it into savings. Sorry, not very exciting!
QUESTION TEN : WHere in the world would you like to travel to most?
Copenhagen.
QUESTION ELEVEN : Dream home?
A little house in the middle of a village with a walled garden and lots of land. A studio with a floor loom looking out onto the garden. Either Georgian or Victorian with lots of weird shelves in the walls and doors that open directly onto staircases. Sofas with loose linen covers, bare floorboards, rugs layered on top of each other and wrought iron side tables. Filled with ceramics, art, books, plants and chairs. Abundant window seats looking out onto a good view and plenty of room for hosting.
QUESTION TWELVE : Favourite film?
The Family Stone. I’ll watch it twice in one day around Christmas.
QUESTION THIRTEEN : Favourite Restaurant?
There is this amazing Indian street food restaurant back home in Salisbury called Cafe Dwali which my family and I love.
QUESTION FOURTEEN : Favourite late night snack?
Reeses Mini Peanut Butter Cups or giant marshmallows (only the white ones though, the pink ones are horrible).
QUESTION FIFTEEN : CITY BREAK OR BEACH?
City for sure. I’ve never actually been on a beach holiday.
QUESTION SIXTEEN : Favourite CITY?
Bath.
QUESTION SEVENTEEN : FAVOURITE HOTEL?
I haven’t really stayed in hotels much but I’d love to stay in the Robertson Small Hotel in South Africa one day.
QUESTION EIGHTEEN : WHat’s your favourite or earliest memory?
My brother is only 19 months younger than me but I’m sure I can remember my dad and his friend putting up the cot in my room. It feels traumatic.
QUESTION NINETEEN : what has lockdown meant for you workwise?
I was on furlough for about 8 weeks right at the beginning which was interesting. Everyone asks what I did for all that time but I honestly can’t remember so clearly nothing of note.
Once I came back to work it has been mostly working from home, other than when I am on an install. I’ve loved the slower mornings but miss the office and just having my colleagues around. Oh and I am definitely missing an interruption by one of the office dogs!
AND FINALLY, QUESTION TWENTY : What advice would you give the TEENAGE you?
Please stop worrying so much. Life turns out better than you could have imagined.
Also, stay away from henna hair dye. No one notices what vague shade of brown your hair is but they do notice when it is pond green and then bright orange when you try and strip it out.
