FURNISHING FUTURES MIDSUMMER SALE

We had a great day meeting the Furnishing Futures team in real life as we helped them get everything ready for their big warehouse summer sale last month. There were so many wonderful furniture items and accessories that had been donated by an array of high end, luxurious homewares brands from Cowshed to Soho house and Nkuku.

Furnishing Future’s annual summer sale helps to raise money to be able to furnish and decorate the homes of vulnerable women and children. By partnering with the interiors industry, Furnishing Futures repurpose high-quality products through trauma-informed design to support families that have escaped domestic abuse.

After great success in previous years (with long queue’s out the door from the get-go) we ensured all items were labelled up and safely packaged,  ready for the bargain hunters to arrive first thing. We even managed to kick start the sales ourselves at the end of the day and came away with a bundle of goodies to support the cause. If only we’d driven the Suna Van, then the soho house sofa would’ve been ours too!

In line with our agenda on sustainability, we are constantly educating ourselves on where some of the issues lie within the interior design industry. Did you know that due to current fire safety legislation, all fire labels on upholstered furniture items must be in tact in order for charities like Furnishing Futures to be able to re-use them in their designs? Where possible, we avoid ripping off fire labels and aim to tuck them inside cushion covers or tape them to the underside of a chair, for example. That way, wonderful charities like Furnishing Futures can benefit from being able to re-use as many items as possible in to the homes of those in need.

*If you are a furniture manufacturer, please take note! Please be mindful to secure your fire labels somewhere discreet so that they can remain in tact when in use. Together we can improve circularity in the furniture industry!*
