The Workspace Design Show
THE WORKSPACE DESIGN SHOW
We were thrilled to attend The Workspace Design show at The Business Design Centre in Islington lAST MONTH.
It was an action-packed day of exploring the experienCES of tomorrow’s workspaces, with a series of thought-provoking talks.
We grabbed a seat and listened to a wide-ranging host of speakers offering insights into workplace strategy and design.
In attempt to shape a low-carbon future, the speakers addressed the latest challenges in Sustainability and it was fantastic to engage in topical conversation with the panel regarding local, responsible sourcing.
Consideration for the local area is something we are really taking in our stride when sourcing accessories or commissioning local artisans, for example.
We are also proud to include bespoke furniture items that are manufactured in Britain and to repurpose pre-loved treasures.
As designers, we are aware that we play a crucial role within the design and build industry to encourage and develop change. It is critical for us to cast a magnifying glass over our supply chain, take a closer look at their operational practices and gain a better understanding for how and where the products we specify are manufactured. We are also encouraging our fabric suppliers to shine a brighter light on the content in their fabric ranges for example, so we can share this information and help our clients and ourselves make better informed decisions.
The Workspace Design show reinforced in us that the subject matter is complex and ever-changing. Though there is not a ‘one size fits all solution’ to sustainability, we are working hard to navigate through the complexities. We are continuing to learn and develop internally and work collaboratively with external teams too. It gives us great pleasure to look closely at the requirements of each project - not only a project-by-project basis but also on a material-by-material level too. By sharing knowledge on an open-source basis we can help to propel sustainable developments and decisions in the design industry.
We explored an abundance of brands bursting with innovation and checked out a series of stunning features at the show.
It was great to catch up with familiar suppliers such as Tarkett – a pioneer in recyclable flooring who help to unlock the benefits of a circular economy.
As well finding out a bit more about Kvadrat– a company who continue to push the boundaries of high-quality textiles through design and innovation.
