Surface 2022
Surface Design Show is the UK’s leading event for architects and designers to explore the best in surface material innovation.
It’s a ‘must see’ in our design calendar, so we sent a gaggle of designers (what’s the collective noun for more than one designer, answers on a postcard please!) along to Surface Design Show at the BDC to report back about the pick of the fair.
KATIE DOWNING, LEAD DESIGNER
“‘Tailored Acoustic Craftsmanship’ is the tag line given to the Burel Stitches’ 3D wool collection, and it certainly embodies that.”
“Burel offer a huge variety of colours and patterns, and the designs are inspired by shapes in nature, resulting in truly tactile wall covering solutions. The 100% wool composition makes this product sustainable, durable, and thermal –
that’s 3 big ticks from us!”
ANNA VON WERTHERN-GRAY,
SENIOR DESIGNER
Cimento is a revolutionary cement compound applied to different kinds of substrate, with the aim of obtaining a solid and material appearance that looks like concrete but is extremely light and easy to install.
“We love the fact that this product is carbon neutral, can come in bespoke colours and even has matching pieces of furniture!!”
ELLA BARTRON,
INTERIOR DESIGNER
Amron Architectural are all about metal mesh and their finishes for architecture and interior design.
“We are using this exact product in the image above for an marketing suite that we are currently working on.
I think mesh is such a versatile material and can be used creatively in some really impactful ways, as well as offering functionality like no other material.
Amron Architecural offer a huge range of different mesh products, and the ability to powder coat them in any metallic or colour, so the possibilities are endless!”
MATT GILMOUR,
INTERIOR DESIGNER
“‘Precise and distinctive customization’ – a perfect mix of design and personality. Bealstone’s ability to customise terrazzo flooring is something that could be used in a variety of designs and locations. As suggested by one of the companies’ representatives – the inclusion of crushed glass from a client’s favourite winery can even be included in the terrazzo finish. Ticking a box for us, in terms of reducing material waste and using it to create great design!”
CHARLOTTE STEVENSON,
PROJECT DESIGN MANAGER
“I Ioved learning about the distinctive stones quarried from the UK. Each sample is finished in different ways – polished and sand blasted, leathered and flamed or corrugated, ribbed or pillowed showing the versatility & innovative textures/colours/patterns of natural stone. From marbles to slate to serpentine, limestone & stone - every sample is a unique work of art.
“Squire & Partners promote sustainably responsible behaviour in and out of their practice and are committed to taking account of the social & environmental issues relevant to urban design, as well as being members of the Green Building Council.”
