We don't design gardens....
NATIONAL GARDEN DAY
SUNDAY 8th MAY
WHILST We don’t design gardens (if we did they’d obviously be as amazing as our interiors) but we do know the importance of outside space, the calming qualities that only nature can bring (especially post-pandemic) so we do design some pretty perfect terraces and balconies and we do have a few great ideas about how to bridge the gap between indoors and outdoors to bring a bit of biophilia inside.
biophilia /bʌɪə(ʊ)ˈfɪlɪə/ noun
(according to a theory of the biologist E. O. Wilson)
“an innate and genetically determined affinity of human beings
with the natural world.”
THE OUTSIDE ROOM
We all know the importance of getting outside, and after the past two years that we have had, we are all up for making the most of our outdoor space.
Whether that’s the local park, an acreage of garden, the tiniest balcony, or a massive terrace. When it comes to designing outside spaces we may not know our shrubs but we do know how to design an outdoor ‘room’ that links perfectly from inside to out.
And if your property is blessed with a view then it’s all about designing your terrace to take it all in, from the comfort of your (weather proof) sofa.
AND IF THE LOCAL PARK IS THE CLOSEST THING YOU HAVE TO OUTSIDE
SPACE THEN HERE ARE SOME HANDY WAYS TO BRING THE OUTSIDE INTO YOUR INTERIOR…
INDOOR PLANTING
We are always going to wax lyrical about real plants, so if you can keep a parlour palm alive, then you should.
But if your green fingers are a little pale and pasty then you can now get some really decent faux planting, you’ll just need to get your Oxygen fix from elsewhere.
Plants in pots, plants in wicker baskets (with a watertight plant pot inside), plants in freestanding planters, plants hung on walls. Go for it.
GREEN WALLS
Again, faux or for real, fill your boots with greenery. We have used green walls in marketing suites, residential amenity spaces, reception areas and residential properties.
All bring a little bit of life to the party.
FOLIAGE AND FLORAL FEATURE WALLS
And if you can’t even be trusted to look after some faux foliage then you can always turn to wallpaper and wall murals.
Botanicals and nature-inspired design is at a new high at the moment, whether that be florals or foliage.
And you can choose from some incredible wall murals that depict far off vistas, or extreme close ups that take on a new life as a wallpaper.
From whole wall murals, pretty repeat papers, panelled wallpaper sections, graphic prints or enlarged etchings there are loads of ways to bring the garden into your home.
AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS….
Move to a development where they literally lay on a putting green for you….
